  • The Gem State: nearly every type of gemstone has been found there, including rare star garnets.

  • Shoshone Falls - "The Niagara of the West": Shoshone Falls, located on the Snake River, is actually higher than Niagara Falls.

  • At 7,993 feet deep, Hell’s Canyon along the Idaho-Oregon border is the deepest river gorge in North America, even deeper than the Grand Canyon.

  • The famous writer Ernest Hemingway spent much of his life in Idaho. He is buried in Ketchum, a town he loved and where he spent his final years.

  • Idaho is the only U.S. state whose official state seal was designed by a woman. In 1891, artist Emma Edwards Green created Idaho's seal.

  • World’s First Chairlift: The first chairlift in the world was installed at Sun Valley Resort in 1936, inspired by a banana conveyor system.

  • Idaho’s Famous Blue Turf: Boise State University’s football stadium is known for its unique blue turf, dubbed “Smurf Turf.” 

  • Invented Television: Idaho native Philo T. Farnsworth invented the first fully electronic television. He first demonstrated his invention in 1927, revolutionizing entertainment worldwide.
