  • The Constitution State: The state’s Fundamental Orders of 1639 is considered by some to be the first written constitution in history.

  • The world’s first telephone book was created in Connecticut, in 1878. It had just 50 listings and was more of a single sheet than a book.

  • Hartford, CT, is known as the “Insurance Capital of the World” because many of the largest insurance companies were founded there.

  • The USS Nautilus, the world’s first nuclear-powered submarine, CT, in 1954. 

  • The U.S. HQ for PEZ candy is in CT. The facility includes a visitor center with a massive collection of PEZ dispensers and candy memorabilia.

  • Yale University is famous for its secret societies ie. Skull and Bones which counts several political figures, including multiple presidents.

  • The Scoville Memorial Library in Salisbury, Connecticut, founded in 1803, is considered the oldest publicly funded library in the United States.

  • The famous author Mark Twain (Samuel Clemens) lived in Hartford, Connecticut, for many years. 

  • The Frisbee was invented in CT by students who threw around empty pie tins from the Frisbie Pie Company in the 1920s.

  • The first color TV broadcast in America was transmitted from New Britain, Connecticut, in 1948 by the company CBS.
